How an Urgent Care Center Helps Patients

Urgent care centers were developed in the 1970s to treat patients who needed immediate but non-emergency medical assistance. They were created to treat walk-in patients who did not want to wait for an appointment with a primary care doctor and who were not ill enough or injured severely enough to need to visit the emergency room.

The development of urgent care centers has greatly reduced the traffic and wait times in emergency rooms, and they are typically a more affordable option than visiting the emergency room. In addition to these great attributes, centers like ours usually have longer hours than normal primary care offices. We are able to treat a large variety of ailments, from colds to broken bones.

Facts about our urgent care center

We accept unscheduled patients, also known as walk-in patients.

We are equipped with on-site X-ray technology and the ability to perform blood work and lab services. These centers can provide pregnancy tests, STD tests, drug tests and glucose tests.

Care is administered by a medical doctor. Nurse practitioners and physician assistants provide care as well.

We can provide care instead of a primary doctor, or we work with them to provide treatment.

We offer extended weekend hours, as well as some holiday hours.

We can prescribe short-term pain relievers and antibiotics as needed.

Urgent care vs. retail clinic

Urgent care centers and retail clinics differ in that retail clinics are typically staffed by nurse practitioners and physician assistants and provide less advanced medical care than urgent care clinics. Retail clinics focus mainly on treatment for everyday colds and flus and may not be equipped with advanced technology.

What we treat

We help patients with the following conditions:

  • Colds
  • Flus
  • Mono
  • Strep throat
  • Bronchitis
  • Rashes
  • Allergic reactions
  • UTIs
  • Yeast infections
  • Ear infections
  • General infections
  • Vomiting and diarrhea
  • Pink eye
  • Cuts
  • Burns
  • Sprains
  • Strains
  • Broken bones

We also offer preventative care services like vaccinations, school or sport physicals and even gynecological exams.

While it is not necessary to make an appointment with urgent care centers, patients can schedule appointments before they arrive to ensure they are treated immediately upon arrival.

When to visit the emergency room

If experiencing a life-threading condition, it is important to visit an emergency room instead of an urgent care.

Visit us for help

For comprehensive care right when you need it, urgent care facilities are well-equipped and well-staffed. If you need to be treated for a cold or flu or you have burned yourself or possibly fractured a bone, you will be able to receive quicker care and save money by visiting an our clinic over an emergency room.

Plus, the insurance company is likely to pay for these visits. You may only be required to pay the co-payment. We suggest contacting your insurance company to find out what they will cover and what your portion of the bill will be.
